Community Colouring Competition

It is very unfortunate that all NAIDOC celebrations have been cancelled for the second time. For many of us at We Care, in our community and our families, NAIDOC week is an important time for us to come together as one, march with pride and enjoy the community events. For many of our young ones, NAIDOC events are also an exciting part of the school holidays. As disappointing as it is that those celebrations will not go ahead, the most important thing is to keep our staff, community and mob safe.

In keeping in line with the current COVID-19 restrictions, We Care would like to celebrate in our own little way by hosting competitions for both the general community and staff, with awesome pre-paid visa cards and gift prizes!

Children and young people

This includes the following age categories - Ages 8 years and under, 8 years to 16 years, 16 years + - of the NAIDOC 2021 themed colouring in sheet.

The colouring sheet can be downloaded here or picked up from any of our Maitland office locations. The competition closes at 5pm Friday July 16th and all entries can be returned at any of our Maitland offices or via email at nat.wright@wecarensw.com.au . Winners will be announced later in the week. There will be prizes for those who win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places of each category. Prizes include a $50 gift card for 1st place, and smaller gift cards or vouchers for 2nd and 3rd.

Adults

This is an opportunity for our community to showcase their artistic talents, inspired by this year’s NAIDOC theme: Heal Country:

Heal Country! – calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction. Country that is more than a place and inherent to our identity. Country that we speak about like a person, sustaining our lives in every aspect - spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally.”

We invite the community to create their own artwork using the themes above, and what Heal Country means to them.

  • Any materials / mediums welcome and the artwork can be of any size.
  • Participants should provide a small sentence to go with their artwork with a description.
  • A panel will judge entries.

*Please note, this is only open to non-professional artists.

1st prize is a $500 pre-paid visa card, 2nd prize is a $250 - $500 pre-paid visa card. Entries Close at 5pm Wednesday July 21st. (This competition is unfortunately not open to anyone employed by We Care NSW.)
